Says he's going to ban people who don't use the search function before asking questions. Do you get upset when people don't use the search function first?

Report that mod to DToast for bad faith moderating and violating our trust and safety.

If it's the same question over and over that has been answered a million times then yea I will get annoyed about it tbh.
There's also many "READ BEFORE POSTING" topics on game boards. Do you actually read those topics before posting? And do you get upset if people ask questions or make topics without reading those topics first?

I mean, Discord is an IM and not a message board, kicking somebody that ask something that was asked a week ago is kinda stupid.
GameFAQs isn't going to be merged in with GameSpot or any other site. We're not going to strip out the soul of the site. -CJayC
IMO, in an almost dead Discord or forum, you need all the traffic you can get so people asking repetitive questions is okay in my book so long as it's not purposely trolling or spamming.

Searching is still less convenient than it used to be on mobile discord, so that could be a factor as to why people are less likely to search.

This.

I'm in several discords for mod overhauls of certain games. They have a faq channel and have a notification direct you to it upon joining. And still you get several dozen to hundreds of people daily asking the same few questions answered by the faq over and over again
i imagine some people may be trying to find very specific bits of information and therefore may be trying to avoid accidental exposure to other bits of information

but also the name of the website is what again

What if I'm not only asking to be informed but also want to discuss the situation? A searchable answer can't do that.

Depends on the question. In most cases if a question was asked even just a few months ago, theres probably more current information, or different people looking at the question who can provide different points of view
That was the real thing that people would get irritated by on the forums, so I'm not surprised a Discord moderator is doing the same thing. Reddit is also horrible for that. If you have a question, use the search function. If you don't see it, then you can ask.

Discord is horrific as a store of information. If a message isn't pinned it's probably eternally lost to the void, except to people who've seen the message already and know exactly what to search to dig it back up.

Reddit is also incidentally a horrific store of information since its search function is literally non-functional. Moving away from traditional forums was a mistake.

Google is the best search function for Reddit. Its true.

just google: reddit [subreddit] [topic]
and you'll probably find exactly what you're after. works for professional subreddits anyway
It's worse on reddit tbh. A lot of popular subs get overly anal over assuming you're to read an essay before posting.

If I'm on a sub and after my first post I get a "you're post has been deleted automatically because X" then I'm never going back to that sub.

I actually agree with the mod, but suspensions nor warnings should not be given for this. Its like at a university- READ THE SYLLABUS!

I've seen Discords that have a channel for faqs that nobody can post in but everyone can view that people are directed to if they ask a common question.

Depends on the traffic. You don't want a billion "HOW 2 MINE 4 FISH" topics clogging up the arteries. It used to be a major issue on gamefaqs, but now the population's been slashed several times over and it's hard to get spam on that level anymore.
