Game is on the line. A mislynch loses. Brohan was 0% town. Ben was low% town.

The one thing that convinced me was that I couldn't see how lynching Brohan first would change anything. I didn't think about possibly being able to confirm or deny Ulti's miller claim though.

Since lynching Brohan otherwise doesn't improve our position in any way.

What you have on your side is the facts, a good thing to have on your side but not the best thing. In that position, with only the information town knew for certain, there was a choice to be made. Do you think Ben is scum? If yes you lynch him in case there was any town power left to be blocked so that he couldn't block it. Now in the circumstance where everyone is honest and we know a mafia roleblocker would do no harm you would be correct, you don't lynch the roleblocker. But when you have a claimed active scanner kicking around it is always the best play to go often the perceived mafia roleblocker.

The failing of town is relying on meta, but once the choice is made that Ben is likely scum, you kill the roleblocker every time. There will never be a time in history where I think someone is 90% mafia roleblocker and go "nah, let's not kill that one" it is the most powerful role in the game for scum.

Knowledge of roles aside, there's also more to it.

The only way you can conceive brohan being town is if Sceptile is scum. Ben/Chris was more of a binary thing (close, anyway) and you have Chris who is a known great mafia player who claimed literally doctor. You lynch the highest probability scum and the other option gets easier over time (because scum continues to let town doctor chris live or whatever. you have more info as you go)

We can disagree and that's fine. It's good to have different styles.

I'm not trolling. Everyone is good at mafia when playing armchair mafia, but being in a game with the pressure on is different. Ben had two of the best scum players of all time going after him. What was town supposed to do?

Stop and think about things more, clearly. I had the pieces, except for dealing with death. But I was surrounded by scum, and didn't want to take the hard road.

In the two games I've hosted on B8, one was a town flawless victory and the other was a mafia flawless victory. Ulti and chris were on the winning team both times. Heh. Oh and chris was Psychic both times. And brohan was idle both times!

Then about an hour later I PMed him again and went 'oh death is the 4th scum'

From my perspective, you guys outed your whole team by refusing to lynch Brohan. Luckily for you, no one on town seemed to notice.

Well then. Didn't know this game ended. GG Scum team. Chris and Death were the only surprises, but damn were those flips surprising. Death really stepped his scum game up.

Sucks that my mislynch happened as it did, but shit happens and it's just a game. I suspected Ulti because of his poor case on me, but again, I really thought Chris was town after that claim. Good jorb reading me like a book lol

Yeah it happens, the best thing you can do with mafia if you want to make it a long term hobby is learn from your mistakes. I look really awesome here because my plan was well executed but there have been games where I was just completely off the mark as town or routed as scum too. Don't listen to a single person who says they haven't been incredibly fooled or routed before - they are 100% lying.

Also MI you know mafia lesson # 1 - play to the people in the game. I was ready to throw Brohan into a wood chipper if anyone had really fought me that day and reorganized myself. But no one ever did so I just won there.

I mean I'm not new to mafia. I've been playing on gamefaqs of an on (mostly more "on" than "off" until recently with the game before this being my first game in a long time) for a good 3 years now. This was just an especially bad game for me. I never had either of those roles before, so I tried to play to those roles, and I knew it was a gamble, but I went for the shot anyway.

It could have potentially have gone better if you didn't counterclaim me, and I tried to account for the possibility of a counter claim, but no one even listened it seemed like. I definitely take blame for going for such a gamble, but it's not entirely my fault when no one even attempted to look at the set up I made or the princess claim. Better luck next time I guess.

As I've grown as a player I've become more sincerely good at reading situations and playing a odds based game as town that usually lends itself well. My ability to town read clear players as town is probably in the top tier in the world!
