I paid for about 7 or 8 45 minute long lessons before my first driving test (that I failed because parallel parking). I practiced parking in the instructor's car but took the exam in my mom's car, which handled differently. After that, I practiced driving and parking in my mom's car for a couple of hours total and passed the next exam a month later.
I think it's important to tell people that if you know what car you're going to use for the driving test, use that car for practice. At least with things a lot of people find tricky like parallel parking.
