Yea after Foxx pointed out climate change it might just be a general reference to the refusal of our government to discuss any issues.
If you're wondering about the "should I start worrying," it's in reference to events in the US. The Camp fire. Now people are wondering if maybe they should worry
giving up cars and ice cream is unambiguously giving up highly destructive unnecessary goods to prevent further climate change

most people overuse cars. They are, by and large, a convenience item. People can live without them
substitute "luxury" if you prefer

no many people need them to get to their jobs. and dont start on public transportation bullshit when its not universal.
we cant all live without having to work
youre making far too many assumptions. you make it seem like finding work, moving, etc. are all easy things to do when that isnt remotely the case. just because you have a cushy life where everything gets handed to you on a platter doesnt mean others do. cars are a necessity. period.
the argument you should be making is for cleaner modes of transportation, including electric or solar cars

Throughout much of the country, going without a car would be a serious impediment.

Serious impediment =/= impossible
it's inconvenient and I cannot deny it
Most people in the US live in urban centres with public transit and have access to transit lines (not a huge majority, but most). American car manufacturers really pushed the everyone needs a vehicle thing, and American life got structured that way. It doesn't have to be like that. It can't stay like that, it's not sustainable. Shit needs to be evaluated and people need to be worrying, like, yesterday
I'm not talking about people living in urban centers -- although even there you have places where transportation is limited -- I'm talking about MOST of the country. Throughout large chunks of the country, going without a vehicle during winter is almost a death sentence.
Granted, even in cities you'd have some pretty major logistical issues if you didn't rely on automobiles for the transit of goods whether it's b2b or customers trying to bring their stuff home.
And "impossible" is setting a ridiculously high, completely insincere bar.
lets all go vegan and stop driving our cars, maaaan

but we can all do things to live closer to work

Not if you have a significant other who works nowhere near where you do. Either way, one of us is gonna have to live beyond bicycling distance
Yes I've had jobs straight up deny me employment based on me not having a vehicle. Guess they had too many people claim to have a reliable ride to end up constantly calling out with a I don't have a ride excuse.
Hell some jobs Ive applied for even straight up want your driver's license number and I mean jobs where driving wasn't part of the description.
We dont need houses either. Why dont we just live in tents?!
You and everyone else here love coming up with excuses for how car centric America is relative to anywhere else. That still means one partner can be without a car commute
A country where people willingly go for an hour and a half commute to get a cheap house in the suburbs for their job in the city is not the norm. It's America
Only an American would compare a vehicle to shelter

This just reeks of pure ignorance on top of so many assumptions. It's like you don't realize people's lives are quite possibly more complicated than yours or something

Way to miss the point as you so often do
By saying not everyone can do it so why bother I feel like you missed last week's episode entirely
It's not all or nothing. People have to make changes, now
But saying that cars are relatively unnecessary for most people is just incredibly false
And you'd be right. I merely wanted to respond to your assertion that cars are unnecessary.

Yeah but it's very openly about climate change if you watch this week's episode

It has to have been about climate change. They have doubled, tripled, quadrupled down on gun violence (school shootings) in every episode. No reason for them to add another layer to gun violence imo.
doctor foxs weak arguments has convinced me to eat more animal products and drive much more frequently.
this is what you get when you insult and make assumptions about others
If we completely rework how society operates and go back to the way people lived in the 1900s, sure.
They are useful
They are convenient
Most of the world does not use a car
Most of the American population can access public transit
Are people in this topic SERIOUSLY talking about getting rid of cars? I thought POTD was better than this!

Can I get some sources? I want to be educated on this matter.
For now I'm just going to say that I disagree with the last part. Most of the American population can access public transport? Have you ever traveled across the US?
Foxx, they are spoiled and soft. They wouldn't last a week without their precious luxuries.
