I keep suggesting games we can play together and he's like yeah idk if it will work on Linux. he won't even dual boot. I don't love windows but as a gamer who grew up in a Mac household, I will never again attempt to make that unix gaming shit work. what's the point

Actually, Linux has tons of support for games these days. Not everything of course, but from what I've heard, it's gotten way better.

I was a Linux PC gamer about 10 years ago. I loved it. Eventually dual booted Windows because my friends wanted to play the latest Battlefield game at the time.

Linux is actually a great choice if you are into classic PC gaming, much easier to setup and run the right stuff there then in modern Windows.
I am a Contract Software Developer. What does that mean? I don't know, let me know if you figure it out.

Support these days in Linux for big games is way better from what I've been seeing. I'd still be hesitant to have it as my only os for now, but Linux overall seems to be getting better and better.

He could at least use something Debian or RPM based.

Most likely that'd be from a boutique shop. I bought a relatively barebones unit from Hypersonic about 15 years ago, although they are now defunct. I ordered it without drives since the ones I wanted were just hitting the market and I had to find them elsewhere.
