"Paying a premium to get someone else to pick up your to-go food from the restaurant and drive it to your house is lazy, even if there is also an element of fear of the virus that's been in the news, in addition to the laziness.

If you're too scared of the pandemic to briefly walk into a restaurant (or go through a drive-thru) to pick up your to-go food, then don't worry, you can just pay an extra $10 to get some poor person to do this simple task for you. Let them take on all the risk of covid and navigating traffic while you stay safe at home in isolation.
Ugly mindset imo"

saw this on another site in response to food delivery apps and wondered if anyone agreed or disagreed with this opinion

Yes. Delivery isn't going that much safer that picking it up yourself. It might even be worse since more people are touching it

What is wrong with being lazy? If someone is willing to pay for a service and someone is willing to do it what is the problem?

@BlackScythe0 this person apparently thinks it's just a sign of stupidity if you use one of these apps and you are putting a driver in danger of catching covid when you do this

so maybe just maybe go to the store yourself go to that restaurant yourself instead of ordering delivery...is the point they are trying to make i guess

Oh fuck them I don't give two fucks about covid.
no one should EVER have pizza delivered or else theyre LAZY
weiners and farts??? idk lol
i just think it's easy to see why these apps saw a boost in usage during this pandemic.... but rather than admit that....people like this person will rant and rave how if you use delivery You are an idiot

That person's an idiot then. Lots of technological innovations have been invented to make life easier. Is he lazy for driving a car instead of walking?

Yes, he simply needs to pull himself up by his bootstraps harder. WORK. HARDER.

Centralization is effective. One person can not only deliver ten meals faster than 10 people separately would, but they're the only one getting exposed to the virus as well. Thus helping slow the pandemic.

Plus it acts as a transfer of money from the work-at-home middle class to the corona-unemployed poor people.

@JOExHIGASHI i think that's something which really kills arguments like his...because as you stated most technological advancements have been made to make life easier

with that in mind...it's no surprise people would become lazy correct?

This is my take as well

Times are tough and Im probably gonna have to start delivering food myself pretty soon. Lots of people are struggling and I dont like leaving the house so Im ok paying a delivery fee and giving someone a $4-5 tip to bring me a bite to eat from across town

No. I used the service when I DID have a job. I usually had to WORK through MY LUNCH window just to keep up with WORK.

I use to miss BOWEL MOVEMENTS in order to get my WORK done. I was NOT LAZY.
I have mixed feelings on those services. I wouldn't use them because they're overpriced as fuck (and very little of that apparently wins up with the driver) and I don't feel there's sufficient vetting on the drivers, and in general they're an all-around nuisance. However, because we're in a pandemic, I'm less willing to completely write them off.

The problem is having these idiots showing up at your house by accident as many as five times each week. I even put up a sign at the base of my driveway without any luck. And if one of these idiots hurts themselves on my property somehow, I could be sued for it.

Like 99% of modern society is "lazy" wtf is this. Why do we go to a doctor instead of designing our medicine from herbs and tree bark?

The bigger issue with these delivery services is they seem to be non functional from a monetary perspective. They are expensive and the delivery person, store and company all seem to lose money or make a negligible profit on them. It's not sustainable.
I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.

Yes, because god forbid someone try to make money from this situation in a moral way instead of buying up all the toilet paper from your local store and selling it in the parking lot for 3X the original price!

If people are willing to spend extra to have someone deliver their food to them, then why shouldn't there be someone to take advantage of that?

I've also never heard of this happening, even once and while I'm sure it does rarely it's a pretty big boomer moment to think they'll sue you for getting hurt on your property.
It's good for if you want food but are too drunk to go get it yourself or if you want it delivered to your work so you don't have to waste part of your break going and getting it

Usually I'll think of that beforehand and get food 1st so I don't have to pay those ridiculous fees though

It depends on your situation. There are some people who literally cannot go out to get food right now, people who have not left their houses since the initial outbreak, because COVID will almost certainly kill them if they catch it.

And, frankly, if somebody coming up to your door has an appreciable chance of causing them to hurt themselves, you probably should be sued.

isnt that technically city property?

It sure is but that stops zero people from suing you. And if the person hurt doesn't sue you, the city will file a cross complaint to add any relevant homeowner in the area who could have reported an issue but possibly failed to do so just so they can try to get out of some responsibility.
Would they still be subject to the same thing
Since the delivery person would come into contact with a ton of people (probably more people if hes done more than one order). So, its probably less safe

As for the drivers, its a job. They dont have to do it

Anyway, people can use whatever they want to use. I personally dont/wont use it. But others definitely can

I order at places that do delivery. I never understood the concept of these "we'll pick up your food for you" things. This is a service offered by the restaurants I buy from and always has been. I don't understand why there would be any additional risk as both me and the driver are probably fully vaccinated (70% vaccination rate).

And when I did before vaccines were available I just wore a mask to pay the person. What is the problem here?

Kinda weird because most people on here I'd consider "poor". Like I think someone used to work at a Dollar Tree. Hell some don't even have jobs, or any marketable skills and leech off of the government. Hell I think we have a few retired people here as well.

While there is a lot to unpack in regards to how Doordash compensates it's drivers, a lot of people who were laid off were able to stay afloat by delivering during the pandemic while stimulus checks and unemployment were still stuck in red tape.

The service will exist and people will use it as long as people are willing(or have no other option) to work as freelance delivery drivers, and people are willing to pay a premium to have it delivered. That's just how free market capitalism works.

I just think they are stupid.

All those services have up-charges on normal menu prices on top of the delivery fees. It's ridiculous. I wouldn't mind as much if there were just delivery charges, but don't try to take advantage of idiots by pretending something that costs 11 dollars at a restaurant actually costs 14 dollars. yeesh.
