Played a bit last night. Enjoying it so far. I made a sorcerer (astrologer) character which is outside my comfort zone with Souls games but I wanted to mix it up. If I get my ass handed to me too much I may restart with a melee character though

I got Horizon Forbidden West too so I got a lot on my plate right now

Yeah, I usually stick with melee builds (with a bit of pyromancy thrown in) in Souls games. Starting with a samurai this time, so I guess I'll try a strength/dex build for now.

I was thinking either Vagabond or Astrologer, I've only played a little bit of Bloodborne before so mostly everything is new to me

A dragon swooped down at me out of no where last night. Managed to run away, but holy shit that was like a huge nope. No way I could have faced it early game

I managed to run to a bonfire but I can't fast travel out of here... Having better luck away from where I was originally teleported though.

This area also has enemies which are invisible, or only appear when they attack then disappear...

That dragon isn't too bad as long as you have the mount. He mostly stomps his feet at you ineffectually while you slash at his Achilles tendon. Certainly has one hell of intro though.

I hit this chest too, got to the first site of grace within the cave, but you can't fast travel out of that one, lol. Next closest one is to the left outside of the cave that you can travel back from btw.

Yeah, I haven't figured the bear enemies out yet, but I kind of been ignoring them, since I have been working on Stormveil & exploring the remaining parts of the starter area first. That jump attack wrecks my shit: OHKO

I found out you can fast travel to any bonfire in the overworld from anywhere on the map. But you can't fast travel into or out of dungeons, I believe. Still figuring shit out.

Yeah that Teleporter trap was total BS. I was pretty high level & while I could deal with the cockroach things (they have very low stamina, so go into critical pretty fast) the boss was really tough. Had to leave my souls there. Stupidly wandered into it as well, since there is not a fog gate to the boss, but rather an erm, actual gate. Still, got some high level ore & an entrance to Caelid proper, so not entirely fruitless.

I haven't played yet today, but I finished a small dungeon last night. Found this weird statue that lights a beacon pointing to the entrance of this cave or something. It was a pretty small dungeon with one enemy type, some traps, and a boss, but it was fun.

Being a caster is pretty dope. Spells do decent damage but I'm a bit of a glass cannon. I get pretty fucked up when I get caught by one of their attacks.

Position yourself in their path (although youll have to move out of the way if the footsteps stop), then attack when you think its right in front of you. Just one hit will do, but the timing can be tricky. @Far-Queue

Yeah, that academy section was not too bad. My build and weapons were really coming together at that point, so I was causing massive damage to the enemies and bosses & was tanky enough to take a few hits, also being a confessor I had access to magical barrier, so could shrug off a lot of magic damage. I felt tailor made to counter that section. Even second attempted the moon witch. Then, feely cocky I entered Mt Gilmor & had an embarrassing death to a surprisingly tanky & damaging zombie dog, then got exploded off a cliff to the abyss by one of the exploding raven enemies, so easy come easy go I guess.

I feel like that is an issue with the game in general. Oftentimes you do a dungeon and get a reward that is utterly useless, like a base weapon that you won't bother with because yours is already fully upgraded or a spell you won't use. It probably will be better on subsequent playthroughs because you know what dungeons to bother with or avoid, but there is a lot of optional content in this game that does not help you at all aside from a few souls here and there.
