Well I use the biggest swords I can find, power them up as much as possible, pop my buffs, and just swing away, and roll out of attacks and keep swinging

A lot of the good stuff is dropped by bosses, or found through exploring somewhere that might be difficult to navigate through. I didn't find a decent replacement for my starting staff until dozens of hours into the game, but that starting staff for the Astrologer is a solid starting weapon so I was able to manage

i pretty much used the lordsworn straight sword until i went and got moonveil, and i used that until i was able to get rivers of blood and i just used that

you don't necessarily need new weapons. I'm still sometimes using my starter broadsword (max upgrades) at the end of the game. sometimes a slower harder hitting weapon is better though. make sure to use the right affinity too, something that scales with your best stat (strength -> heavy, dex -> quality?, int -> magic, faith -> holy or fire, etc.)

it depends which area you're talking about. the combat plays almost identical to at least 2 or 3 previous games, so many of us don't have to learn this game except for the small differences.

as for how to fight, generally play defensively. especially if there's an impossible boss, learn to evade them before you focus on trying to kill them. if you can kill them it will be because you know how to avoid their attacks.

one thing I can't really give advice for is groups of enemies. since at least DS3, something "cheap" the game does is stagger enemy attacks. so if there's more than one enemy, the game will sync up their attacks so that you can't fit your attacks in and have a greater chance of being stun locked. this is very hard to fight through and you have to fight even more defensively in these cases. (for bosses that have more than one enemy at a time, this is even worse, though they also often seem to program it so that one of the bosses can tend to hang back otherwise it would actually be approaching impossible.)

not just that it's hard, I just hate the boss. ( well on top of the fact that you can't actually kill that boss ). if I enjoy a boss, I can fight it and lose all day long. if I can't stand a boss... then it's just torture trying to get through it.

and 2v1 isn't necessarily terrible either. O&S, Demon Prince, Lud and Zallen, I hate the 2v1 aspect but I can push through it. it's really the "oops sorry you can't kill the boss" part of Godskin Duo that's terrible. (and the stupid number of times you have to kill those guys too.)

I had a blast playing through the first time, but I'm starting to worry that I've ruined the game for myself. I keep trying to make new builds and try out new strategies, but no matter what I try I keep coming back to jump attacks. They're just too fun and effective.
And with that... pow! I'm gone!

That's a side-effect of beating on their corpse when they're dying, the life pool is larger than the individual ones of the two.

When I saw those damn curse frogs from Dark Souls 1 I got extremely irritated, but I remembered that curse doesn't exist in this game.

Then I stayed extremely irritated when I saw the god damn poison swamp.

Killed Rykard last night after completing the Volcano Manor contracts .

I'm really trying to discover as much as I can in this game naturally, but my brother mentions stuff (he's on NG+2) and he's like "You're in the Mountaintops and you haven't found that, yet?" then I'm like wtf and I google the item and find out its in some cave in Liurnia that's obscured by all kinds of foliage.

Probably gonna compare my map to an online map soon. I'm amazed at how much stuff is in this game already. That I'm missing shit in areas that I thought I'd thoroughly explored is mind-blowing

This isn't a problem, you'll have tons of them either dropping or stumbling on soon enough.

The real issue it that you'll end up basically stockpiling almost all of them because upgrade materials are SORT OF on the hard side to find (to upgrade your weapon past +5 or whatever). I basically use the same weapon I found at the beginning of the game, 90 hours in. I have a couple others that I sort of upgraded here and there like the Frost Axe and Battle Hammer but have so many weapons I'll never use just sitting in my backpack. I haven't sold them mostly because a) most only sell for 100 runes and b) many are unique and I don't want to sell the only one in the game, even if I'll never use it.

I hate how some miracles and spells have an arcane requirement to them. I dont want to spend the next 10 levels raising arcane for a spell I might not even like.

So I just figured out how to summon wolves and it turned the first boss from "I literally cannot do damage" to "oh he's dead" in about ten seconds

Dude with the right Spirit Ash like 90% of the bosses are a cakewalk. Anyone crying about this game needing an easy mode needs to experiment with the ash summons because it's literally easy mode

shouldn't the tutorial boss canonically be the "first boss"? (not the grafted thing before that)

I guess margit is like the first "wall" boss, or area boss. although I think you can just walk around him too.
