I give you GameFAQS guys a lot of shit for your Nintendo infatuation.

But I think everybody that considers themselves a gamer has to watch this movie on opening day.

So they seem to be leaning into the "Italian person transported to mushroom Kingdom" origin, rather than depicting Mario as a native.

Also it feels like they're trying really hard to make Bowser seem like a badass, which is....an odd choice.

I feel like they captured Bowser's goofiness and his legitimacy as a threat pretty well because no matter how dumb and arrogant he may be, he's still an enormous, ill-tempered turtle/dragon thing that breathes fire.

Sounds like Pratt did mix in the Brooklyn accent a bit, which honestly, the "Mario is a plumber from Brooklyn who ended up in the Mushroom Kingdom" is the story I grew up on.

Animation looks incredible. Always makes me wonder why a lot of video game to movie adaptations try to do things with real actors. My only gripe is Mario looks a bit off, but it still looks enough like him for it to not be annoying.

Had zero expectations before watching the trailer and now I'm actually hyped. They did a great job with it

^his face is slightly more realistically proportioned and that's making him look a bit different

It would be interesting if it becomes a plot point and he looks more like "himself" as he spends more time there

I'd argue that the cartoon wasn't "terrible", it was just made for 5-10 year olds to be like "OOH! NINTENDO STUFF!", not everything needs to be watchable for adults, the SMB Super Show and Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3 were a lot of fun if you were the perfect age. They did exactly what they were meant to do.

Definitely agree that SMB 3 and Super Show were fun cartoons for what they were. The only one I think could legitimately be called terrible was the Super Mario World one where they made Yoshi Jar Jar Binks before Jar Jar Binks was a thing.
