That's 35 hours down the drain I guess.

Goddammit and I JUST finished the 3rd story mission.

And I was all excited to finally play the game for the first time.

I don't think I have the drive to play through it again right now.

That's brutal I'm sorry. Especially cause there's a lot to go through with the citadel at first. I'd say beat another game that is completely different then come back

How do you even do that? I haven't accidentally deleted a whole ass save since the days of memory cards.
Don't make a belt out of watches. It's a waist of time.
that sucks

nowadays we have auto save backups for a reason

I was trying out different classes at the start. I didn't realize that each time I made a new character, it made a different set of saves per "career".

I tried to clean it up when I found out, but then I accidentally deleted the one I was actually going through on.

I was playing on xbox so it does have cloud saves.

Actually, this would be the perfect situation to NOT have constant backups since I could have restored the previous state if the window between syncs was long enough.

Mass Effect had them then as well.

As long as they didn't delete the entire character, or overwrite their last autosave, it should theoretically be recoverable.

Always backup everything before deleting anything when it comes to saved games.

I was almost to the end of FF6 when my wife accidentally saved over my game. Ive never beaten it lol.

FFVI is the reason why I always do staggered saves. The first time I played back on the SNES I powered through the game, got to the Floating Continent, and then got stuck because I hadn't leveled enough. I was too weak to win a single fight, but I also couldn't leave because of the shit design where you can only leave the Floating Continent at certain points (so you basically have to fight your way to an escape point). I couldn't go forward, and I couldn't go back. Had to delete the save and start over from the beginning. Lost 16 hours worth of gameplay.

From that point on I started doing staggered saves, so if I ever messed something up or had to backtrack, I'd have 2-3 saves at earlier points I could revert to. And I've been so incredibly thankful for that over the years, because there've been tons of times where I need to go back to an earlier save, or even if one save gets corrupted you can still try to go back to an uncorrupted save to keep going. It's so useful. Which is part of the reason why I kind of hate games that only have autosave and don't allow manual saves at this point.

Of course, the other advantage of staggered saves is that if you do them, you never lose all that much if you accidentally delete a save/overwrite the wrong save.

Yeah, that was the problem. I was deleting multiple characters and then I wasn't paying attention and got rid of the main one.

Yes.

Bioware's used autosaves almost from the very beginning. I'm pretty sure they were there in the original Baldur's Gate games (though it's been about 20 years since I played them on PC so I may be remembering wrong), but KotOR and ME definitely have them.

I guess the silver lining in this would be that I know what choices I'm gonna make so it'll be faster.

And I was playing an Adept before and unlocked the Singularity bonus talent, so now I can play the actual class I want to bring to ME2 and 3, Vanguard.

Not looking forward to replaying all those Mako planets though.
