carbot's been getting traction in official blizzard products for years now since they're fan favorites, they've done little video series for most of their main stuff (and HotS, which is just All Of Their Stuff)

SC 1 eh? I've been working on an overhaul to my expert difficulty "mod" that I've posted both here and the Blizzard forum that features enemy hero units and a "boss" in every final mission.

Starcraft speedruns piss me off...

I look up strategy on how to beat certain levels (cuz I don't know what's a trigger and what's the game actually being an RTS), only to find the speedrun is like 30 seconds of cheese.

For example, the final level of the Terran Brood Wars campaign involves just building 2 nukes, a path to the upper right corner, nuking a pair of spore colonies and then landing the medics in; since the overmind has no defenders at this point cuz the game is like 75% trigger based.

...

I'm starting to think I like Warcraft 2 more than Starcraft... no trigger garbage

I'm on BW Zerg 2 now and the enemy keeps landing drop ships in my base containing ONLY medics...

A lot of missions can be cheesed which is funny and the AI has no way to react to nukes but have you seen Grant's can you beat SC1 without losing a unit videos? you should give that a watch when you're done with the campaign.

The AI is hardcoded to spam certain spells on certain units, for instance medics always want to cast blind on overlords or lurkers which usually leads to them being sent to their death.

RTS multiplayer, to me, has always been kinda trash... the only one I sorta like is Offworld Trading Company

Then you watch some replays and it's like "I GOT 8 HIVES!!!! NEEEEED MOOOOAOOAARRRRR'

One time where you get attacked by zerg and the Sons of Liberty come and save you (one of the really early Terran campaigns where you dont even have seige tanks) I managed to wipe out the entire zerg base before the countdown finished. Only did it once though.

It's Sons of Korhal, and that's the third and most boring mission in the game and also one of the easiest to do a full clear since you're stuck waiting for the timer and have to do it out of boredom.

Fun fact: there's a disabled objective to destroy all zerg hatcheries to end the mission early but they disabled it for some reason, and I've brought it back in my mod (similarly with some other disabled content).

I think they enabled it for Starcraft 64, but I can't remember exactly

decided to do some tests with cheating... with fast build and a rush to cap the enemy workers I tested to see how often the enemy gets BS spawns or influxes of cash.

...

And it turns out not very often. On the final Terran BW mission (To Chain the Beast) it is very rough, but I did the only possible thing and built 150 SCVs to tap out every mineral on the map. The Brown and Red players can be tapped out, but the Orange player cannot... they get influxes of cash every few minutes. Orange has a bank of about 250k resources on this level.

Compare the first battle with the overmind, the final Protoss mission in vanilla... if you rush successfully, don't even need cheats, you CAN resource cap both Red (extensions) and Purple (Overmind), they only have about 5k starting resources each.

An interesting tidbit about Starcraft 1 is that no enemy unit is ever magically spawned out of nowhere unlike Starcraft 2.

Also in every final Brood War mission there are triggers to give infinite resources (a lump sum whenever their stockpile is low) to at least one opponent ranging from: Brown and Orange as Protoss, Orange only as Terran (as you learned), then everyone as Zerg.

Lastly, there are some interesting unused dialogue in some missions

For instance: in Protoss 6 in the mission briefing originally Raynor and Tassadar talk to each other about the possibility of encountering Kerrigan indicating Raynor was originally playable here, instead it just skips ahead to one single dialogue where Tassadar says he can sense Zeratul nearby and that's it.

As a second example in ProtossX3, Artanis starts by stating that their weapons are ineffective against Cerebrates to which Zeratul replies with his starting line "Remember young templar..." which is why that strange statement is made since he's not addressing you a.k.a. "The Executor".

well, I'm done with SC1

Should I buy the SC2 campaigns+nova? I plan to replay Wings of Liberty but not sure if I want the other campaigns.

The achievements do count on Exophase, so I'm interested.

Wings of Liberty is free, actually! So just decide afterwards. Also if you want to mess around in coop let me know, I've played a lot of it but there's still plenty of commanders I need to level

I still haven't played the nova stuff, but I've heard it's pretty good

ya know, it's kinda funny that Jim Raynor was hanging out in a bar near Backwater Station on Mar Sara this whole time.... something like 10 feet from where you first meet him in the first game, where he's Marshal.

This is like hiding from the police on the roof of your own home.

Idk if it's gamefeel or what, but it feels a LOT more natural building expansions and multiple unit builders in sc2 that in sc1.

like, in sc1 I usually would only have 1 barracks or factory since my 9 or whatever scvs wouldn't out produce that amount

but in sc2 it feels very natural to just spend everything you can as fast as you can
"Salt cures Everything!"
My YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/Nirakolov/videos
sc2's very much a game about making sure you're spending all your shit, yeah. if the things you are producing are useful and you're never above like 600 minerals, that's a sign you're doing very well

expand fast and keep on producing dudes and you can just F2 attack move in campaign, coop, and to an extent versus

If you're deep into SC2 then there are a boatload of crazy mods out there like Real-Scale.

Otherwise more tame and (popular) ones include Moebius, Wings of Mengsk, and Enhanced Swarm for example, then you have Legacy of the Memes.

That's about where I've stood on everything after WoL since they came out. I kind of wanted to play them, but never enough to actually buy the games. And now I just categorically refuse to buy anything ABK produces, so it's a moot point.

ah, the ending of SC2 was rather satisfying, doing the Nova Ops now
