Aunt May died and Peter had a character development.
Then Marvel hired a new guy that demanded her to return back to life and Marvel retconned it into Green Goblin having kidnapped her and replaced her with a genetically-altered actress. Spidey rescues Aunt May and it is never mentioned ever again.
