I have countless video games from all gens and lately all I really wanna play is maybe a quick half-hour session of a shmup or pinball on my PC-Engine mini. If I boot up my ps5, Xbox or PC I just stare at the games I have and don't feel like playing anything in my collection, and I have hundreds.
Like sometimes I wonder if I should just sell everything and just watch YouTube or Netflix. Video games are pointless why do I wanna play them?
Big immersive world's but I just don't feel like it.

How long have you felt like this? I feel like this sometimes but it comes in waves. One week I just want to play some Cities Skylines, the next I'm trying to play every interesting game I can

Sounds exactly how I feel

There's nothing wrong with feeling that way every once in a while. Most of my gaming time lately is taken up by Rocket League and Slay the Spire. I'll get to other games whenever I'm in the mood for them.

I think about this all the time, honestly. I think a lot of times when I play a game I "appreciate" it more than I actually have fun with it. Sometimes it feels like I'm just playing stuff due to sunk cost fallacy or because I wanna know what the big deal is with it. Figuring out which games to play from the seemingly endless amount of them that I'd theoretically enjoy starts to make them not enjoyable.

For me there's an element of opportunity cost as well, which probably nags a bit at me with the experience. I want to be more productive and more social, but I don't think it's reasonable to be productive or social all the time, so there is probably room for some gaming. I don't know if you feel the same way, but if you think video games are pointless, are YouTube and Netflix really better alternatives for you?
It can be fun just getting into more 'casual' games for a while (whatever you randomly feel like). I really enjoyed games like Pinball FX3, Peggle 2, Marble It Up, Hot Wheels Unleashed, Luck Be a Landlord etc.
If youre not enjoying it, you dont need to keep doing it.

I barely play these days despite having a lot of free time. It just doesnt appeal to me to the same extent that it used to. There are often other things Id prefer to be doing.

Yes because it's less "work" I guess. Video games feel like a placebo for a job to me nowadays. Beating a hard boss or something just doesn't feel like a big accomplishment anymore.
Also story-driven games don't feel great anymore because I've played enough most are the same with different coat of paint.
Horror is possibly one genre I'll never get over. I just found a decent enough price on Splatterhouse for PS3 and I told myself "this may be the last physical game I ever buy"

I think its time I retire from gaminghang up the controller, ride off into the pixelated sunset, and finally touch grass. But of course, Ill still make exceptions for the sacred few: the comfort games, the forever installs. You know, just one match of Rocket League, a quick round of Fortnite, maybe an hour of Stardew Valley to check on my digital chickens, and obviously I cant abandon SkyrimIve only restarted it 37 times. So yeah, Im totally retiring right after this next 12-hour farewell session.

This has to be a reddit pasta lol
Should I try Minecraft?
Honestly never played it.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm having fun

That's pretty normal for Minecraft. It's gotten a bit better over the years, but it's historically been one of those games that you keep a second window open with a wiki for reference, at least until you've played enough to memorize all the recipes.
This is my signature. It exists to keep people from skipping the last line of my posts.
Minecraft is a pretty slow moving game that you can easily lose hours in... so it's either a really good or really bad one to play depending on why you're tired of gaming lol

I used to play it pretty often, I like it but the kind of annoying thing is that a guide is pretty much mandatory. If you're on survival mode, the basic gist of it is get wood, make wood tools, get cobblestone, use cobblestone to mine coal, use coal to make torches, use torches to light up your shelter and surrounding area to keep mobs from spawning, sleep in your shelter so you can safely go out again, keep building up your shelter so you have a food source, and then pretty much do whatever you want from there. Even that beginning part is kinda hard to figure out with a guide but beyond that I can't imagine anyone stumbling upon how to do things like build a Nether portal or find The End on their own.

Pinball FX3

I think Alien Crush might be my favorite game on the PC-Engine mini, lol
It's cooler than Sonic Spinball on Sega Genesis

I more or less have done this. Just retired from sports games altogether for the most part. I pretty much just play single player games that are easy to pick up and play for short bursts. Although I will still get heavily involved in a JRPG, but its gotta be one I'm dying to play. I don't really player an western RPGs, they're just too big and time-consuming (Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, Witcher, etc.)
American Truck Simulator is my new home

I have a lot of back and forth on games. Sometimes I want to play one game for 20 hours a week, sometimes I play several games a few minutes at a time and total play an hour a week. All depends on my mood. Part of maturing.

I would say you don't need to "retire" per say, just maybe take a break for a while and see if you get the urge to go back and play something after.
I feel like I need to put something here, or else I am one of those weird people who think that having no signature is a character trait.
One easy decision you can make is to stop buying more games just because they're on sale. Well not that easy if you have a habit of it, but when you think about it, it's pretty rare that you won't be able to get it at that price again. Now I'm at the point where I almost never buy anything unless I'm about to play it. Of course that only gets you so far since it would still take me years to get through all the games I already own. But there's no harm in acquiring fewer games if you're at the point where they start to feel like a chore.
Same. I pretty much just play sports sims now :/
