people always talk about Nintendo controllers being the best ever

Wiichucks in particular get a lot of undeserved hate. Functionally, they were definitely too limited, which hampered the Wii's ability to stay relevant because multiplat games just straight up weren't compatible (plus the obvious performance issues, but the Wii's market share was large enough that downgrading multiplat games to match its specs might have been worthwhile if not for the controller incompatibility issues), and the motion control angle was hit or miss, but they were actually quite comfortable as a controller. Having the freedom to put your hands wherever you want while playing instead of locking them a few inches apart is pretty nice.

Says they got undeserved hate, starts listing all the things wrong with them, lol.

The problem with the Wii controllers is that they were a dumb gimmick that only ever really worked out for a significantly small amount of titles that were specifically designed for them. Everyone just wanted a normal controller that didn't force you into using barely functional motion controls for games that would have been significantly better without them. The fact that they were "comfortable" is in spite of it all. I wouldn't even give them that, because of how cumbersome it was to fiddle with all the individual pieces needed to get them to work. Just give me one thing that turns on and works out of the box.
