Krispy Kreme is garbage

Dunkin Donuts is essentially the donut equivalent of McDonalds but I would much rather have those than Krispy Kreme donuts

No idea. I went looking for "how it's made" because of the show that used to be on Discovery before that channel went to shit, and that was what I wound up with.

I didn't feel like looking for anything better, because it would have required more time than I was willing to put into a throwaway reference. And the visual part is basically exactly what I wanted anyway.

"Bring back"? You can still get lard and make donuts with it if you want. It's just more expensive than shortening, so most don't use it.

Yeah, and it's only in the Lansing area so it really might as well not exist. I mostly know I enjoyed a warm Krispy Kreme when one did exist near us, but Dunkin is almost always a let down.

When I said many, I mean most of them, if not all. I can buy it from Amazon but I don't want to make my own donuts, I want donuts to be made with lard again so they are good again.

You're from the northeast right? Yeah, everyone outside the northeast knows dunkin is absolute trash lol. Worst donuts I've ever had. They're never fresh either. And for some reason yall have one every 2 miles lol. Same with Tim Hortons. Absolute garbage. Mom and pop and asian donut shops are where it's at but Krispy Kreme is still easily a couple tiers over dumpin

And, like I said, that's not common because of how much more expensive lard is (among other concerns, like not lasting as long in a fryer, making the fryer harder to clean, and turning away vegetarian/kosher/halal customers). If you want lard-based donuts, your options are to either make them yourself or sit around twiddling your thumbs hoping that somebody opens a gourmet donut place that can charge enough to cover the added cost/practicality concerns. "They" aren't going to "bring it back" in the sense of re-establishing it as the standard, because it's not a matter of any discrete entity establishing oil/shortening as a new standard.

Baked Donuts are like Air Fryers where the product itself is not necessarily bad but they are sold completely off the back of deceptive marketing and consumers not knowing the difference.

Baked Donuts are just donut shaped cakes. They don't use yeast, aren't risen, and aren't fried (they're basically dense cupcakes).

Air Fryers don't fry things at all, they're convection ovens with a larger fan. But convection ovens have been extremely unpopular with the masses for years, so they called a convection oven with a larger fan a "fryer" and it sold like crazy.

But people like "donuts", and they like "fried" food, so the marketing works.
YOU COULDN'T AFFORD IT!

There's no reason you can't bake a yeast donut. There's also no reason you can't fry a cake donut. In either case you'll likely need to tweak your recipe to ensure your dough has the consistency it needs to stand up to your cooking method of choice, but baked/fried and yeast/cake are two separate distinctions.
