Good players get paid better than bad players but everyone gets payed well. Teams actually care about and even help treat player injuries. In return players want to play and will even play through injuries. People talk openly about making roster moves, trading and benching players etc, and the players never have to worry about losing their livelihoods.

To be fair I dont know how realistic this is in real life but modern work culture is so bad.

Now I'm curious, what percentage of corporate income do players actually get?

Like, I know there are pros that get multi-million dollar contracts... but what percentage of income for their sport is that?

Rather, does a basketballer with a 15 million dollar contact earn a larger slice of the corporate basketball pie than an office worker of their Sony pie or a fast food worker of the McDonalds pie... and such

Players in professional sports get cut all the time and then don't find another team and have to go back to the "corporate world" to find a job.

And what is considered "paid well". The average practice squad player in the NFL makes about $234,000 per year. Is that "well" when he plays for the LA Rams or NY Giants and has to live in Los Angeles or New York? Compare that to Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills who makes $55 Million a year.

Yes it objectively is. $234k is more than enough to live comfortably anywhere in the US. Thats $19.5k per month.

Thats not the point of this topic though. If people werent so desperately afraid of losing their jobs (for good reason) they would be a lot happier.

Treating normal jobs like sports teams wouldn't change that though. If anything, people would be even more desperately afraid of losing their jobs, because the way sports works is that a vast pool of potential employees is competing for a limited number of spots. A lot of your time will be spent worrying about being cut or traded against your will unless you can somehow struggle to be the absolute best at your job, while everyone else is doing the same.

Ironically, if AI does away with a majority of human jobs, that might wind up being the scenario we find ourselves in.

There's also the fact that the only reason why athletes are paid so highly in the first place is because sports teams make ungodly amounts of money. So unless you're willing to pay $100 for a Big Mac or $200 for a bag of oranges at your local grocery store, most businesses would never generate enough revenue to maintain that sort of economic model.

Not sure about NBA , but MLB and NFL players get over 60% of their league's revenue.

Typically, most business spend between 15 to 25 % on payroll, with usually 60% of their revenue spent on their raw materials and/or products.

That's why it's not realistic (maybe, I have no expertise in this at all) but if the rumors about AI and automation are true then it will definitely be realistic. The money that was once paid to workers will then be going nowhere.

If the rumors about AI and automation are true, then human workers generally won't be needed at all, and most of us will be ground up into Soylent Green for the .1% Overlords. Or forced to fight to the death in the arena for their amusement.

And if there are still jobs that require humans to do, they'll be able to pay you even less than they do now, because there will always be a million other people right behind you begging for your job if you ever dare complain about anything. You don't need to keep someone happy if you can keep them desperate.

If you work an office job you will still have to go to work every day sorry

But they would care about your mental health after working too much for too long without taking breaks
