He's probably going to the Clippers if he goes anywhere. Anyway he's from Riverside which is even closer to the epicenter than Los Angeles.

USGS said 11% chance of a 7 or greater and something like 26% chance of a 5. "When" is anybody's guess. How they came to those figures, I do not know.

I guess since we haven't had a major (7 or above) quake in 20 years a lot of people are kind of inexperienced with these type of situations. Transplants and people under 20. The Caltech lady said a major quake happens every 15 years or so and a great quake (8 or above) happens like every 70 years, IIRC.

Yeah I've seen many get downgraded but I don't recall one ever get downgraded then get raised in magnitude.

Northridge was bad . They practically re-wrote the building codes afterwards.

I was 11 when Northridge hit, but I wasn't close enough that it effected me aside from some shaking.

If its big enough and you are close enough to the epicenter or coast prep only matters so much. A well built house probably wont safely withstand a Tsunami and/or the ground effectively tuning to liquid under/around it.

9.0 in a major population center is going to be devastating no matter what.
