Im not a Covid denier and been cautious but what makes this new strain anymore alarming than the other previous mutated strains? Why is this one getting a lot more news compared to others.

But did he come into any sort of contact with someone who did? Also remember that direct human contact isn't necessary for covid to spread, like we saw an outbreak in New Zealand which was spread by frozen food

So if the original has an infection rate of like 1.1 (it causes 1.1 new cases per infection) and this one is 70% more contagious, that's like 1.87 new infections per case.

So basically, super spreader events of today will become the regular spreader events of tomorrow. Christ. Even if people could magically recover without issue, the logistics of all the hospital rooms used up and that many people being sick at once is guaranteed to be catastrophic.
