kind of a double standard. I prefer Aerith and Rydia tho so it works out fine for me.

Huh, I never considered that it was a mistranslation of "Lydia". I always just pronounced her name as ride-ee-uh. Sounds more fantasy anyway.

That name change was intentional, to be more exotic. Tina was exotic in JP, not in NA.

Its very likely a translation error as the L sound and R sound come from the same letter in the Japanese language.

Thats why the legendary hero in Dragon Quest is called Erdrick; because the localizers didnt know whether to translate the JPN name to Loto or Roto, so they made up a new name.

Thats also why the founder of Lululemon named the store that. Hes a massive racist and he thought it would be funny imagining Japanese people trying to pronounce the name of the store.
