I've never watched anything star trek related but love Patrick Stewart. Was wondering if I'd be missing out on story
Thanks for the new quote - Zareth
There are a few episodes that tie in with characters or events that took place in the original series, but on the whole, I dont necessarily think they are required viewing
stant447 - So suicide is illegal. But smoking is not? I'm allowed to passively kill myself, but not actively?
Transmutant - Just as long as you die I'm happy.
Not at all. Anything relevant from ToS that carries over to TNG will be explained in the relevant TNG episodes, and aside from a couple character crossovers I don't remember there being much at all. The series take place nearly a century apart from each other.

Not really

The TOS despite the reverence people have for it is dated as hell. Very slow and awkward television. Weirdly sexist too

Be warned tho the first 2 seasons of TNG mostly suck and 3 is only mostly ok

It's 4-7 were being the best sci fi show ever made became standard
^ Hey now that's completely unfair!

TNG season 1 us really rough, season 2 is better but the 3rd season is when it really gets going.

I watched TNG without watching TOS and never felt lost.

TOS characters are so ingrained in pop culture that you're probably passingly familiar with them already and that's all you need.
