Knew about its bad privacy practices and mishandling of user data for a while, but just kept it on because of inertia. Nag popups in Firefox/Edge every time I reboot my PC to install their browser extension was the straw that broke the camel's back. Let's just hope the old "Windows Defender + uBlock Origin + common sense" combo works out and doesn't screw me over.

that, and I already do most of my browsing on Linux already anyway >_>

Seems to be the cycle with every antivirus product, especially free ones (initially switched to Avast after AVG became unusable)

Stare upon the malware, and the malware stares back upon you.

I remember having the hardest time getting rid of Avast. Every time I uninstalled it it ended up reinstalling itself after.

I ended up being able to get rid of it because I found some guides on google, but damn...
Was pretty painless here (unless it somehow pops back up in my system tomorrow ), compared to the Windows XP days of having to uninstall McAfee or Norton.

I gotta appreciate Windows's idiot-proofing where it just automatically turns Windows Defender back on when it detects the other antivirus is uninstalled (or vice-versa when it disables itself when you are using the other software)

I'm going to double down on this.

Microsoft going out of its way to prevent Windows from getting hacked, to benefit Windows, is classic Gary Gygax Lawful Evil
