I was expecting Crystal Skull to be so much worse because I've always heard people talk shit about it but I enjoyed it. Honestly, Temple of Doom was my least favorite but I still liked all of them.

Also Indy has the best plot armor in the history of media

Seeing the new one after work tonight.

Well Temple of Doom is the best one so enjoy being wrong I guess.

A lot of it has to do with expectations going in, as well as the lingering feeling that nobody really wanted a movie with old, tired Indiana Jones in it.

I'd agree with this, tbh.

I love all four, though (not seen 5 yet)

Crystal is definitely better than Temple and largely overhated.
Let's all please just get along.
I didnt hate 4 either. Probably helps to have no nostalgia for this franchise, and thus no expectations for what it should be

I wish I could see Raiders or Last Crusade again for the first time. Enjoy TC!

My ranking of the films:

Last Crusade, Raiders, Dial of Destiny, Doom, Crystal Skull.

A lot of people always seem to like Doom better than I do, but I think it is because I saw it too young. My parents took me to see it in the theater when I was seven, and watching someone get their heart ripped out and burn freaked me out. That is right folks-Doom is responsible for the PG-13 rating, and I am one of the fragile children it was created to protect!

And Gremlins! It was the 1984 double whammy that caused it

It recently dawned on me that, despite over a dozen viewings over the course of my life and all my attempts to like it, I simply do not enjoy watching Temple of Doom. With that perspective, I need to watch Crystal Skull again sometime; the 2nd half of the movie is trash, but I remember having a pretty positive opinion of the movie overall in the first half.

Couldn't pick a favorite between Raiders and Last Crusade. Raiders had Marian, bringing a gun to a swordfight, and one of my favorite endings in movie history (also, Indy getting dragged by a truck is the first stunt I ever saw as a kid that made me sit up and go 'wow, that's so cool.'); Last Crusade had Sean Connery, Brody and Sallah in more active roles, and was overall more fun, varied, and adventurous.

Never saw 4 or 5, but I'm sure my ranking for the first 3 won't change when I do.

Very true and take your pick, because Gremlins freaked me out too!

I thought Crystal Skull was a lot of fun, ignoring a couple of really dumb moments.

My friend thought the same thing when we left the theater. Now he says it's one of the worst movies he's ever seen. He had similar comments with the Star Wars prequels and Thor L&T. Stick to your guns.
I am the Cheese! I am the best character on the show! I am better than both the salami and the bologna COMBINED!

Shia Tarzanning his way into a moving vehicle with an army of monkeys was pretty ridiculous but it made me laugh so I gave it a pass

I always felt indifferent toward Crystal Skull. I think all three of the sequels could do with a rewatch for me, since it's been a long time since I've seen them. I'll consider watching the new one at some point, but I'm in no rush to.

Raiders of the Lost Ark has always been my favorite action movie of all time though.
Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi

The major grudge I have against Crystal Skull is that it came out right when I was starting to get sick of schlocky, implausible CGI-fests, Spielberg publicly stated that they wanted to use as little CGI as possible...and of course the second half of the movie turned out to be a schlocky, implausible CGI-fest to beat all CGI-fests.

A major issue I heard about Crystal Skull is how they dont follow the theme of the first 3 being centered around a different religion.

One of the many issues of Dial of Destiny is how we fail to get a gruesome death for the villain, he just sort of dies offscreen.

We see his plane crash in a big explosion and then we see his charred corpse a few minutes later

I like them all a lot. Isn't there a new one? I'll watch it when it's on d+.

This might be part of the reason that it bombed. People know Disney movies will come to Disney+, so only the best are worth seeing in theaters. I only saw it because I'd seen the other four movies in the theater and wanted to say that I'd seen the entire series in the theater.
