At firelink, you can go back to the undead asylum and access a new chamber. Go there, and get the rusted iron ring. It stops you from being slowed down in water, and makes blighttown much more bearable once you reach the bottom.
Also, hunt down and kill the snipers first, even if it takes suicide runs. They don't respawn, and are by far the worst thing in that area
Honestly, I had a good time in blighttown. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, given how everyone says it's the worst thing ever.
I did take your advice with the Snipers tho.

Pyromancybis almost free in this game, outside of leveling attunement a little. Always take the time to level up a pyromancy flame and pick up a couple of spells, it is a great compliment to any build.
