oh boy, even more Google shenanigans

A user has noticed that YouTube under Firefox adds in a 5 second delay, but using Chrome (or even just a user agent switcher), the delay is gone
https://old.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/17z8hsz/youtube_has_started_to_artificially_slow_down/

Google has issued a statement on the issue, blaming ad blockers (of course)

btw this is the uBlock Origin filter rule to fix it

The youtube vs adblocker saga is fascinating to watch unfold.
All this time I thought my computer sucked or had a virus but if this is true then wow....
Thats a very bad decision if thats deliberate. Thats how you get hit by anti-trust shit.

YouTube needs to be sued for this, YT Premium is too expensive and forcing people to get it for a good experience is illegal.
Google really pushing it...

i dont use Firefox but either way, this is scummy for real.

tactics like this should be illegal to begin with.
it is only $14 a month.

But I'm okay with ppl like you giving up and adopting chrome because the less people use ublock, the less reason for Google to try to mess with it. I'll be a free rider while you pay up

Nothing. I just believe in property rights.I have a very diversified portfolio of physical assets and stocks. I worked hard to acquire these and don't understand why people think they are entitled to private property for free.

That used to happen to me when I was using a different ad-block addon. Every video would be preceded by ~5-10 seconds of a blank screen, then it'd play like normal. But that was like a year+ ago.
Look, I can name a few instances in MY life where I tried to reach mutual understanding
and i can TELL you, always faster and easier to just kill em. Just is!

I've been having the issue where the video window will tell me that I'm offline even though I'm not, and skips to the next video in the playlist. Very annoying when I have Firefox open in the background.

I thought that was the standard for subscriptions but now everyones charging up to like 16 dollars a month
I'll take a few second black screen delay over ads any day. I deal with similar bullshit blocking Twitch ads.

Do you use iPhone? On android it's pretty simple to download a YouTube apk with ads blocked + extra features

For TV I have a dedicated PC instead of a console

You mean the filter rule? You just open up the uBlock Origin dashboard, click "My filters", and paste the code in

Rarely youtube will freeze up and not play a video, but otherwise it's normal. Not surprised they're doing this.

And people still acting elitist over their subscriptions. It's lazy trolling at best and just sad at worst.

More than Disney+, Prime Video, and Apple TV.

Just to remove ads from user-generated 'content'.

That's very poor value.

Youtube has been running like crap for while. Even going as far to give a message saying "if video does not start shortly, restart your computer" and never actually loading the video.

In what way? Youtube is not a right. It's a business. They could gate everything behind a pay wall if they want. Is charging for Netflix illegal?

i do in fact use iphone, my prediction is they keep doing half assed ways of stopping adblock for about 5 years before it starts to get super hard

but i just pay for a family plan of youtube premium so my wife and sisters can watch youtube with no ads because theyre tech illiterate, and i prefer YouTube music to spotify

Any time they want to protect that property by putting their service behind a pay wall like Netflix, they are free to do so.

Don't buy it then, and deal with ads, or just don't go there any more. Not sure I see the problem. Plenty of other services offer ad-supported and ad-free tiers. Why isn't youtube allowed to do that?

There isn't anything unethical about youtube fighting them, and if they eventually completely eliminate their use, you will not have been slighted. They do not owe you anything.
