Which direction are the Strawhats sailing? (One Piece spoilers)

First off, I'm only at Impel Down so no spoilers past there.

But when they first crossed Reverse Mountain, I thought they were deposited on the right side of the Red Line, between the East and South Blues, and then started sailing east.

But I think around Thriller Bark they started showing graphics that showed they've been sailing west from the left side of Reverse Mountain the whole time, between the North and West Blues. And that caught me off guard.

Was I just wrong the whole time and they've actually been sailing west this whole time?

Some interactive maps I've looked at suggest they started out sailing west toward Reverse Mountain, then Reverse Mountain sent them back east and dropped them into the grand line and they've been sailing east for the most part ever since.

I think the red line is tilted, though, so it would technically be southwest at the beginning of the story, then Reverse Mountain sent them back northeast into the grand line.

The small-scale maps in the manga don't consistently have north at the top. The Straw Hats sailed southeast from Reverse Mountain, with the course slowly turning northwards. At the middle of the first half of the Grand Line, they were sailing east. When reaching the Red Line again, they were sailing northeast.

Okay yeah, the globe is tilted.

But we're all in agreement they've been sailing to the right this whole time yeah, and not the left? The anime is just flipping things for some reason?
