I played p3 and p4 and think they are great

For mainline smt i enjoyed smt 4 apocalypse but i thought smt 4 vanilla was super meh. I loved strange journey and devil survivor 1/2.

I am looking for more narrative focused experience, so i am leaning towards p5 royal now, but i heard p5 story is weaker than 3 and 4. I also heard nocturne's port isnt the greatest but i have a beefy computer (3080)

Are you a stickler for frame rates?

Original PS2 version of Nocturne runs at 60 fps. Remaster runs at 30 fps.

As such, when I played Nocturne, I used a mod with the PS2 version to simulate manual skill inheritance, which is the one thing I liked that was added into the remaster (well, that and the added voice acting). You can also install mods to make the game look better graphically then the remaster. If you don't want to bother with mods though, the remaster is probably the best version, as random skill inheritance sucks and never should have been a thing...

Also, no reason to play OG P5 when Royal exists. Just want to clarify.

Persona 5 Royal is perhaps the best JRPG ever made. I'd get P5, but SMT 3 is also a great game if you can handle the old school issues it has (not to mention its a rather mediocre port). If you have a 3080 you will have no problem playing SMT3. It runs fine on a 3070 with no issues.

Depends on mood I never did finish SMT3 :/ but I had been playing Persona since the first (yes I didn't get into the series again till the third). I'd at this singular moment say P5R but damn.

What I really want is a SMT 2 remaster. I'd go back to my old save on ZSNES but I was in the backtracking stage and I don't remember how to get around.

If you want to just enjoy a story get P5R, but if you prefer a challenging experience with some funny gameplay moments SMT3 is a good choice.
