I didn't find it any harder to simply complete the game. The only extra challenge came from the newly-added time trials, which you can always just ignore if you want.
Chicken butt.
Its no wonder the IP is dead, Naughty Dog went and fucked it up, instead of making it fun, they made it as hard as they possibly could

I've always felt 3 was the easiest...

I would avoid 4 if you're having trouble with 2...

4 is harder, especially when going for 100%, than any of the first three (whether the original versions or the remakes). I was able to max% all three of the originals (including at least gold relics for 3 on PS1, and platinum relics including the DLC levels on the remakes), but struggled to even just beat the game on 4.

Eh, whatever.
2 is the best one.

4 is stupid.

This was my favorite level in the original trilogy tbh (unless you count DLC levels, in which case Stormy Ascent), and second out of all Crash games, behind Off Beat from Crash 4. Can't really put my finger on why.

Finding the hidden warp room was really fun. Like hopping on the nitro crates that won't hurt you because they don't bounce.

Naughty Dog left the IP as in good a state as possible with three well-received platformers and the greatest kart racing game of all time. It was the multitude of games after that, that ruined the franchise.

4 is a great game if you're playing just for fun and to see it to the last level. It's hard as fuck still, but there are some really cool set pieces, lots of variety in the levels, and the other characters are great fun to play as (I love the Dingodile levels so much).

If you want to get the Plat, or get every crate, or beat all the time trials, or basically do anything other than just survive to the end credits, it will probably be an absolute fucking nightmare, though.

People say this, but I don't think anyone plays Crash games without trying to get all the boxes.

People don't start Crash games without intending to get all the boxes. There's usually a "fuck it, I'm not 100%ing this, so let's just enjoy the ride" moment somewhere along the way, though.

In Crash 4's case, that's around level two or three, haha.

I got close to 100% in 2 in the remake but couldn't find one of the colored gems. Then I refused to look it up until some other game came out and grabbed my attention and I never went back. So I'm missing that and whatever clear gems require that and maaaybe one or two other secrets. I never got close to completing the original versions of the games and never reached the credits of the original 1. Them games is flippin hard.

I did 100% both versions of CTR multiple times though cuz those games rock.

I think Crash 1 is considerably harder than Crash 2. Crash 1 was very constricted movement that feels quite aged, so when playing it on the N'Sane Trilogy it was the most annoying. Easiest is Crash 3. Crash 2 is the best from the original trilogy, with excellent difficult and very engaging levels. There are too many gimmick levels in Crash 3. I think 14 out of the 30 levels are gimmick levels, which is simply too much.

I consider Crash 4 to be the best though objectively speaking. While Crash 2 grabbed me the most back in the 90s due to the wow-effect, Crash 4 feels like a more complete game. The difficulty is awesome and kept it interesting from beginning to end.
