Hearing this out of Chicago this morning. I imagine it is going on elsewhere. And yes, attendance does matter, even though i doubt you'll see 100% show up.

My citys school district has real snow days built into the schedule, and we had two of them this week

I only saw one district specify virtual learning on the little closure scrawl during the news this morning. I assume the others aren't doing it.

Also funny that the state university closed classes today but a few of the schools stayed open.

When i grew up we wouldn't get snow days (Because in Canada it's just a fact of life), but we would get days where the yellow busses "weren't running" which means attendance strikes on students who couldn't make it. IE me. Then we'd need to get our parents to write in to say that the busses didn't run, because apparently the bus company's word wasn't good enough / other kids on a route would get rides.

In public school we'd get maybe 1 a year, but in highschool, never.

Our school system had 5 snow days built into the schedule back when I was in school (1982-1995). I don't recall any year where we'd use all 5, except 1993 when we used 10 (they extended the school day by 30 minutes after Spring Break plus one additional day to make up the 5 lost days). One year, we didn't use any (had a record-tying trace amount of snow for the entire season).

I also lived in Canada, and we'd get snow days all the time. Probably 5-10 in a school year. That was about 15years ago

So are you complaining that summer break is longer or what
Snow days are not a thing in Sweden cuz Winter is a natural recurring phenomenon.

it depends on the school board. 5-10 a year is INSANE.

i wonder if my town has a snow day today. (That would be nearly -50 in USA)

I teach in Chicago. We have a snow day and dont have virtual learning. I taught at a different school last year and they had snow days as well.
Why be stupid? Does it make you happy to be stupid?
My kids school has 5 snow days built into the scheduling. If they need to use more than 5 then they'll either do online classes or extend the end of the year.

As a Canadian, snow days were something you only heard about Americans getting. We had to go to school no matter how cold or how much snow.

So my niece goes to a Catholic high school in Chicago. She's on a snow day right now. Not an e-learn day. A day off.

I think the push for replacing snow days with virtual learning effectively died over covid when everyone realized that virtual learning is practically useless.

My kids get real snow days occasionally. MN
Currently playing: haven't played anything since August. Something is wrong with me!
My BIL and wife(teacher) got out two hours early the other day because of rain. If we ever get snow again, I'm sure they'll have a snow day.

I assumed ever since covid made remote learning a regular thing that snow days have been replaced with remote learning days. Either way, I bet schooling is even worse than back in my day.

Id have been fine with that tbh. I loved snow days because I didnt physically have to be at school. Would not have minded doing schoolwork online.

I haaaaated delayed openings though.
