Just about to start JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2014)

Do I need to watch the older one to understand? Or can I just watch this one?

I would honestly reccomend starting with 2012. Yeah it's really hockey, but it will give you the tone in what the series really is like. Plus it will make the rivalry between Dio and the Jojo bloodline more impact by watching the 2012 anime first.
