I sold my 2006 car to Carmax last year for $700. Fixing the air conditioning would have cost me like $3,000 so I thought the price was more than fairWhat was wrong with it? I remember back in 2016 or 2017, I took my 2002 Firebird into Firestone to fix the AC and they told me the AC compressor was leaking and needed to be replaced, and it was $919 to fix. Said I'll fix it myself and walked out since I was broke. I know almost nothing about cars. But I watched a video on youtube and got with a friend who had the tools, and we fixed it together although it took like 8 or 9 hours.

AC can entail a bunch of things that could be replaced. Big thing is radiator and compressor. Dropping and replacing the rad is a fair bit of work depending on the make and model of the vehicle.Nothing is an easy replace on a PT Cruiser.
3k seems high Id say the average on an easy replace is around $1800-2000
