Marvels Voices: Pride is releasing a new one-shot comic, X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 , and fans are finally getting to see the wedding of one of the most famous queer couples in comics Mystique and Destiny.

In the comics, Mystique and Destiny have been together for over a hundred years, and now, we finally get to see when they secretly married and a new renewal of those vows. This marks the first woman-to-woman wedding in Marvel Comics history!

While the issue focuses on the love between Mystique and Destiny, a lot of fans online have been distracted by a certain muscular hunk and a cute twink that grace one of the issues variant covers.

In this cover, drawn and colored by Russell Dauterman, many queer Marvel characters like America Chavez, Loki, Black Cat, Nico and Karolina from The Runaways, Spider-Gwen, and Web-Weaver stand in front of a colorful background.

In the middle of these characters is a smugly smiling Hercules with his arm around a pleasantly pleased Iceman. And just like that the internet has a new favorite Marvel couple.

Of course, fans across social media are freaking out about this new pair. At first, fans were just loving the couple, but the love quickly turned into an argument over who would be the top and who would be the bottom.

So, what do you think? Who's the bottom here?

Depends on which arc you are reading. Technically the X-Men are going to war with humans. So who is the good guy?

Obviously Hercules is the top and Iceman is the bottom. The other way makes no god damn sense

When did Spider-Gwen become queer ? Also I hate Mystique the person. The character is already. But they need to keep reminding people she is a pretty horrible person. And since he is also a father would that make her a top. Not sure how that works.

Yeah it's pretty cheap to make a shapeshifter their prominent lesbian character

Yea, it's weird. At least in the 90s cartoon sequel they are going more for the obvious genderfluid angle with Morph.
What does it mean they have been together for a century? I dont remember this destiny character at all, but I wasnt that into the comics.

They mean in universe.
Mystique can turn into anyone. Destiny is absolutely the bottom.
his comparison suggests we're closet african americans.
I do be streaming: http://www.twitch.tv/blah_blahx
I thought Destiny was supposed to be an old woman.

Since I am not in the community I cannot speak on as an authority, so if I am wrong do forgive me. But I seems messed up the people who have this one power just happen to the LGBT+. And don't give me oh because they can change into different people this happens. Well then, should that take old in everything aspect of a person, not just gender and sex stuff .

So they are both over 100 in story? They look great for their age.

Technically Destiny has been dead for a few in universe decades with Mystique bringing her back to life during the current weird immortal racial supremacist sex cult arc the x men have been going through recently.
Mystique can naturally live very long, but Destiny was an old woman before she was killed by a mind controlled Legion right before the big 90s reboot. She was revived more recently with Krakoa resurrection protocols using Cerebro backup data, obviously at a more prime age.

Destiny was in X-Men Evolution if you've seen that. She was the blind woman taking care of Rogue.

Its definitely annoying how they went with Mystique.

Why couldnt Marvel have chosen Karolina and Niko from The Runaways instead?

Not only that, but to give you a hint as to how old they both really are, Destiny's real name of "Irene Adler" isn't just a reference to the original Sherlock Holmes stories (where she was one of the only people to ever outsmart Holmes), but in the Marvel Universe, she was the very same character. Mystique was also known to have used Sherlock's identity, but it's unclear whether there was a real Sherlock Holmes in-universe that she was impersonating, or if she made up the identity herself.

She is, but Marvel likes to score brownie points every now and then, despite having already existing lesbian characters.

The wedding is lesbian since both participants are female. It's not a description of each individual person's preferences. Like if a male bisexual and female bisexual get married it's still a straight wedding.

But it kinda muddies the representation. Hets, gays, and lesbians get represented, while bisexuals and pansexuals get overshadowed.

I think that is a mistake in the article. The art TC posted shows Gwenpool who is asexual. I assume whoever wrote the article had a slip up on the name

Not necessarily.

Queer nowadays is used as an umbrella term, so any orientation or identity that isn't straight and cis can and do use it, and Ace is indeed an orientation.

I know some trans people who identify first and foremost as queer.

tc posted the art the article referenced, and Spider Gwen is 100% not in it.

It does not mean Spider Gwen is not queer but there is also no evidence either way.

"Heterosexual wedding" might still be accurate but by and large it's fairly meaningless to bring up in the first place.

It's weird that so many superheroes went to the wedding of a remorseless assassin who has literally killed some of their friends.

If I was Marvel I would probably have chosen a different lesbian couple for their big first lesbian wedding.

Apocalypse was a prominent member of the X-Men recently. They have pretty low standards these days.
I thought they retconned that whole Jean Grey using her telepathic powers to force Ice Man to be gay arc because it was so poorly received?
