Theres a strong message in Bambi that hunting=bad. The only drama in the movie comes from humans killing the cute forest critters and accidentally burning the forest down. Imagine the massive outrage on social media and Fox News if the new Disney cgi movie had the message that hunters are bad people.

Also Lion King was basically just Bambi+Hamlet, but with lions.

If I remember correctly, Simba and Nala even have the same eye colors as Bambi and Faline.
I know everyone thinks Lion King is a rip-off of Kimba, but I see its plot as being much more derivative of Bambi, but with a bad guy (Scar).

I never really thought of the main theme of Bambi being hunting is bad. It is a story of loss, resiliency, and moving forward to find happiness in life.

Man is presented more as a force of nature and part of the natural order, no different than any other predator.

That's my take a least. I suppose you are right though insofar as folks would focus on the ethics of hunting quite a bit. I am not sure if folks in the past did but they would now.

When is the live action Bambi remake?
bambi is just land before time for wusses
If anything Ferngully would get more outrage from both sides because one side would be mad at the "Industrialization is bad!" message and the other side would get mad at the sexy fairy people and maybe racist stereotype fruit bat character

A worthless existence

Lion King was pitched as "Bamblet." What you said about it being a cross between Bambi and Hamlet was genuinely how the movie was pitched to Disney.

As for content borrowed or stolen from Kimba, so what? Before being acquired by Disney, The Simpsons went on some weird multiyear crusade trying to expose the film as having stolen everything, but that's how ideas are acquired. It's a foreign property that was three decades' old at the time the Lion King came out. That's exactly the kind of thing that you want to borrow from when telling your story.

I'm not trying to unload on you personally. I'm just rambling in general here.

The Nostalgia Critic/Nostalgia Chick review threw some shade at the film for being set in Australia so that the surrounding population of the last rainforest could be white.
