Society runs on people forming families. With no prospect of starting a family people are heavily disnvested with the collective good of humanity and increasingly focused only on themselves. Which is why the "democracy is at stake" messaging isn't hitting with everyone.
There are people who vote Trump purely because he's funny. But if they had a household to protect they'd be a lot less likely to pull that shit.
