Oh of course. We shouldn't punish kids who act this way. How silly of me. It'd be crazy to make them feel better is expected of them.

What is silly is that you think (or choose to think) that the only options are 'no punishment' and 'public beating'.

And that the only way to communicate 'better expectations' to a child is through violence and pain.
