That surprised me too. He was going for his Ph.D on scholarship. He isnt some typical European meathead.

Iirc he got his degree to appease his father and regardless of what he did his dad was never happy with him. When he got into MIT his dad was like "okay well *insert school* is better" so then he pursued acting to spite him in a way.
