People always moan and wail about whatever the latest Windows happens to be when they comment

But like

You log in, you click an icon, and you're done dealing with it. How does an operating system cause such fury in like five seconds?

For the one in a thousand boots when you need to actually adjust something, Control Panel/Settings (depending on version). Boom.

that'd be swell.

Windows is a bit of a bloated mess that they just keep building on top of.

You can still find this stuff on the Internet, you know.

I installed and played Skifree back in the 7 era, for example.
i could also find the current debian build on the internet.

I dunno, I'm one of those people who uses a very limited number of things.

MS Office
Firefox
Thunderbird
Media player

So as long as I can click the button and they work, it's fine.

Also a good choice. My Linux machine runs Lubuntu, which is of course, debian-based.

I do actually prefer the Linux shell over Windows'.

Yeah... I'm one of those geeks who took it to the next level. I don't just dual boot. I actually have multiple PCs, lol. One for Windows, one x86 Linux machine, and one ARM Linux machine (that one being a RPi).
people just love to bitch. irrationally. see this topic

At my work we do patches and updates months after the releases because we don't want the cutting edge bugs.

Pretty much. It took a couple tries when I added a second monitor of a different resolution and aspect ratio to get them both in the right resolution at the same time. Turns out I just had to disconnect and reconnect. I had guessed that was an Nvidia thing, but even if it wasn't, it took like fifteen minutes, one time, for a kinda niche use case. Big deal.

i ended up having to fuck with group policy because it kept installing an older driver over the good one. i had to go digging to find that solution.

if you were to open your event viewer right now how would it look.

Windows frustrates me because of how gnome changed my workflow and general quality of life as a DE.

True
The Windows updates were starting to slow my old laptop so I installed Linux on it and it's running better than ever.
The OS my work uses is fucking awful. It crashes multiple times a day, and it has crashed multiple times a day for nearly fucking a decade (when another company bought my work's company and switched to a new OS).
Without truth, there is nothing.
I love how random popups steal the focus when I'm typing quickly.
I love how there's no window borders, because why would I want to see several windows at once?
I love how undo sometimes works (in File Explorer) and sometimes doesn't.
I love how Windows can't decide if it's intended for a single user per account, or multiple users to share (as in a family computer).
I love how settings jump around across minor releases.

What? If you know all of this then how are you confused by people hating a specific OS?

Like, I have no problems with Windows 10, but I hated Vista back in the day. Downgraded my new PC back to XP and kept that until Windows 7 came.

You can tailor any OS to your liking. If you're tired of Windows 11's updater constantly in the way, just use the Enterprise version. If you're tired of Windows altogether, use a Linux distro.

I've been thoroughly enjoying my own Windows 11 setup with no issues. There's barely any bloat and almost every major app/service has been replaced with FOSS.
Thanks for reading!
