Having pretty teachers always got me to pay attention more, do more work, and try to do better in general. Pretty works and raised my morale >_>

Classic F4 was hilariously sexist

Seanbaby had a whole collection of F4 comics treating Sue like she doesn't exist

He uses the name as self-deprecating or worse. He named himself that because he feels he's a monster, and sometimes he gets down about it.

Italian, French, German.
Initially, her being invisible was meant to denote that she was mostly a non-factor. That's a weird way of looking at it. But that's comic book logic for you. "If the enemy can't see you, you're not in this contest." In real life, the ability to fight unseen would be of tremendous benefit and almost assuredly guarantee victory.

But I guess the initial idea was that she was weak and girly and could just disappear from the fight and chime in when needed. What can be said? The character started as a sexist commentary on a woman's perceived place: stay out of things and appear when needed.

Now she's powerful enough that she doesn't really need a team.

I love that they're both just say happy to be doing the dishes while the other two play games. How hard would it have been for it to be the parents doing the dishes while the kids played the game? Then it would've made more sense for them all to be happy.

Impossible.

Battleship is a game about ships and war and strategy, no way a girl could enjoy that. What girls like is doing dishes with Mommy, that's a fun game for girls.

I think that dates to the '60s not '50s sadly.

Edit-Several eBay listings date it to 1967.

Apart from Reed's big brain, she's easily the most powerful on the team. I read a limited solo of hers a few years ago where she was a full on spy, using her light bending powers to change the color of her hair and skin as a disguise at a party and being a general badass with invisibility and forcefields.

If I remember right, she was initially only able to turn invisible. That's useful for spying but she was squishy as an average woman and considering what the 4 usually fight, that's not exactly safe. The force fields were a huge boost, and like you gave an example of, writers continue to use them in interesting ways.

Yes. She got forcefield powers like a year or 2 after this story

I think this was in 1962. Her new powers come in 1963 or 1964

I had fun washing dishes with my step sister. Then again it was mean spirited fun. She didn't like how hot I got the water and I'd be thr one washing shed be rinsing/drying. I'd make sure to shove every dish to the bottom when I stuck it in the rinse water.
I put my heart and soul into my work and I fear I have lost my mind in the process

I saw a cartoon episode once where Sue turned evil or something and easily beat the crap out of the other 3 team members.

This was the blog it from has other moments of sexism that haven't been posted yet in this thread.

Hey now.
The Fantastic Four are the weirdest super hero group in Marvel, Sue was useless as she could only turn invisible because sexism, then as people got more progressive they buffed her massively to the point she's without a doubt the most powerful member on the team almost a mary sue in a way. Ben used to be strong enough to get into boxing matches with the Hulk, now he's just a generic strong guy in a universe of strong guys only different is he looks like a mutated chicken nugget that somehow still has a working penis and asshole considering he's had a sexual relationship with a black blind woman for decades now, then there's Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic, he could stretch, oddly enough I can't remember most times where his powers were the deciding factor in a victory vs his brains which kind of makes you wonder why they gave him that power at all, finally, Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, a man of fire, the most iconic member of the team and the one everyone hates the least due to feeling more approachable, I still don't understand why he can fly other than they wanted someone who could fly because all hero teams have at least 1 flyer on them.

Honestly I shouldn't be talking in detail about the Fantastic Four, I've never watched a single thing featuring them in full only bits and pieces, like that old cartoon where Ben could be human as long as he wore some kind of ring, and if he wanted to go back he could chant "Ring thing do your thing" and slam his fists together turning him back, and another show that looked really ugly but had a squirrel girl cameo in it when they were looking for other members for some reason and finally, Earth's mightest heroes where it was apparently a big deal that they cameo'd in season 2 and got a focus episode where they and the avengers completely job to Doctor Doom including him sending Hulk flying out of his castle.

The team tries to make her feel better. Sure she has the weakest power set, she keeps getting held hostage, and she sits out the biggest adventures, but she is still important, right? Just like Abraham Lincolns mother

Damn, imagine being so sexist that even back then people noticed and complained enough for you to make a comic addressing it by basically going "She's moral support, fuck off if you don't like it!"

Actually I don't remember who the bad guy was that issue. But I remember that scene. She was testing out how to fool dogs. She says to herself that dogs can find her when she is invisible, and she is trying to find a scent to hide her from them. She tests it on some dogs the Fantastic Four apparently have in a kennel for some reason but are never mentioned again... and the dogs still smell her

Right he will call himself Mr Fantastic instead of Susan doing it, like how Ben is calling himself what Susan called him The Thing.

I am not being serious if it isnt obvious this was all a joke about Mr Fantastic being a sex name Susan called him.

To be fair, I don't think modern Reed acts like this. All the examples given in this topic are from the 60s. In a franchise like Marvel, where characters stay the same age across many decades of real time, they evolve as the real world evolves.
