I don't like Chipotle but there's still a world of difference between Chipotle and taco bell, to put it in the fast food category with McDonald's and fucking Arby's is dissing a genius...

Starbucks did not rise much because they were absurdly priced to begin with.

Luckily only the real gullible seem to believe that rhetoric still.
Literally argued with a lady who had some intelligence on the economy that a business needs to consider its employees and a business that doesn't pay fairly shouldn't be supported.

the point here is not about whether fast casual counts as fast food. the point is that these places are blatantly greedy.

Unfortunately there are a LOT of real gullible people and unfortunately they vote. A LOT.

Paying workers enough money to live is woke and DEI.

Kinda wild that fast food is catching up to fast casual pricing, and both are even more expensive than regular restaurants at times.

Nationalize them. Fast food is an inelastic good. People pay what they must for their treats after an awful day at work since it is all they have to look forward to.

Companies also have the PR advantage. When the media talks about "Why are prices so high?" they don't usually talk to people like us, or people who are experts. No they talk to the people who benefit from price gouging, who will of course insist that they 'have no choice'.

Hell, how many people hear about the hot coffee lawsuit with McDonald's and still think "Well that old lady was stupid to burn herself like that!", never having heard that she burned herself because the coffee was so stupidly hot it burned through the cup?

I don't even go to fast food burger places, usually, anymore. I'll get a burger from something like Chilis, or a local joint that has way higher quality stuff, and it's barely anymore expensive now.

It would be fun to add the average wage of a fast food employee

Easy. National minimum wage has been like 7.50 since the early 2000s. I believe around when that chart is only a handful of states had 10+ minimum wage. So, you know, another one of the bunk "hurrr durrr dis y dey raze da prices!!1" talking points debunked.

Yep companies are using inflation to raise prices far far higher then they need to. And they have no incentive to lower prices. Not when people are still paying the current prices.

They can charge whatever they want, it isn't like fast food is essential to life. In fact they are quite unhealthy for life most of the time, so it is probably best that people avoid them.

Also, I would argue inflation has been much higher during that time frame in my personal experience. Rent alone has practically doubled in my area in that time frame for instance and that is like half my budget, so unless the government is expecting me to live under an overpass I am just not buying thier figures
