I was in high school and yeah the Bosnian War was a fairly big story for a few years in that time frame until about 1995. We ended up with a significant bump in the 90s moving to my Midwestern state of Iowa as refugees.

Yeah. I was born there and lived through the war. I could still hear tanks shooting rockets several kilometers from where I was. I got lucky and left nearly an hour before Serbian forces came and captured the city.

Damn, if this is true, I'm glad you made it out. My mom was a war correspondent and interviewed the refugees being brought into Germany

^This. Born and raised in STL so I am very familiar with the Bosnian genocide and close to a number of families who experienced it.

I do remember the ethnic tensions in Sydney Australia. There are many Croats and Serbs who hate each other even back during the Yugoslavia days, and once that country was no more there were many brawls particular at soccer events.

No, I was 1 year old when it started. I mean I know of it, though. That's the reason we had some Bosnian kids at my schools.
