While I don't think this needs to be made, I do think Liam Neeson is an absolutely perfect pick for the lead.

Honestly that sounds pretty cool. Can't think if Neeson has ever done a comedy before but I can picture him in the role.

Dan Gregor, Doug Mand and Akiva Schaffer, the trio behind the live-action film Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers, penned the script with contributions from Seth MacFarlane, Mark Hentemann and Alec Sulkin. Akiva will direct.

This however, has me right out. Way too many cooks in the kitchen, and they're all SNL and Family Guy writers? You can fuck right off with that.

That's part of what makes this so perfect. Leslie Nielsen was a serious dramatic actor before naked gun and that movie basically launched his comedy career. It was meant to be intentionally ironic casting him in that role and is why he worked so perfectly as the straight man.

Will it be meta or not? Naked Gun wasn't really meta, it basically just spoofed cop shows, which was partially why it worked so well.
