gatekeeping doesn't make things better for you, it just deprives others of something they might like.
But do they care about the games?
Fallout has been a pretty casual mainstream series since 3. Definitely since 4. Do you mean because it also has a TV show now?
Its been mainstream since 3 or 4 lol

why?https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/4/4a0f1195.jpg
It annoys me slightly, but thats mostly because it gained a lot of mainstream appeal after becoming (in my view) a worse product, which means that we probably wont get the kinds of games I like out of the series ever again.
has that happened, or is it one of those hypothetical things?Have you been on CE the past week >_>

It may not be true in this case, but overall, gatekeepers are a great preservative for quality.how?
has that happened, or is it one of those hypothetical things?Have you never loved a thing that kept getting diluted to appeal to a wider crowd, or to be cheaper?

Have you never loved a thing that kept getting diluted to appeal to a wider crowd, or to be cheaper?I think it depends.
Modern Street Fighter and Guilty Gear still make me sad.
Its because you used to feel cool and superior having this unique and niche favorite franchise compared to your normie buddies, but now they all like your thing which means your thing is now basic so you aint that interesting. It's always this.
always high quality IP
This is what happened with Devil May Cry.

Really? I love the series from the start (excluding DMC 2 and DmC) and 5 was awesome.
Capcom wasn't happy with the core audience numbers of DMC so they decided to reboot the franchise to make it more appealing to a general audience. Which we know now failed and why they decided to go back to the original franchise with DMC5.

as an example, music genres. I'm all for more people getting into metal - but if you were to just let people continue to call every new rock band metal and spam up the message boards / channels w/ it would be a bad thing.I dunno, I feel like this is different.
But do they care about the games? They could , if you let them try them.
