I think maybe social media is more a help in poor and corrupt nations and maybe more a hindrance in first world nationsthe only reason george floyds murders was caught was because of soclial media
But it has the potential in any country to be good or bad. Depending on who is using it and why
Where did they go? What's a good non fandom alternative?
And yet, prior to social media, doxxing, brigading, and online stalking were incredibly rare. Misinformation was not remotely as prevalent, and I cannot stress that enough. "Text/Desk Neck" was not remotely as common. Literal hoax news sites were few and far between (SEO abuse for monetization on social media didn't exist yet, obviously) and were mostly restricted to pranks like Bonsai Kitty. It seems like once smartphones became the predominant phone we all have is when it really got the worst with always having a computer in our pockets.
Stupid "challenges" were few and far between (the choking game has had a pretty long shelf life, but "challenges" that involve committing actual crimes and other socially destructive behavior generally did not exist on a large scale)
Look at the shitstorm that happened during the Pandemic. For fuck's sake, in various parts of the world you had people suggest things like snorting coke, drinking industrial bleach, eating datura/angel's trumpet, or snorting (yes, SNORTING) lemonjuice.

And maybe the person who is friends with a bunch of unhinged lunatics that think they are personally responsible for destroying the website should not be making it.
This has nothing to do with the conversation, but Ill reply to it anyhow. You of all people know Im not friends w/ the group you are referring too.Ok, so that was maybe too much, but you still ignored the rest of my post and only quoted this. Explain why we should care about Fandom alienating a userbase to turn the website into something else completely. GameFAQs isn't a loved one. It's not going to warm our heart that the site may succeed whether or not we are involved in its life.

So I guess Im off belief we should be willing to work with the changes for the possibility that the platform can attract new uses, or possibly even reengage the older ones that have long left this place behind
This place is headed to an early grace if it doesnt attract more people. That we know. Why would they give a shit whether or not the company survives?

I guess nostalgia for what this place felt like with a 100 thousand people on it. Matches not the format or boards that we have fond memories of. But the community that use to be here?

I noticed you closed the other topic when asked how fandom should attract new users and why closing CE would help towards that goal. You made some vague reference to CE putting people off coming to the site then ignored everyone who said you needed fifty karma to visit it before it was closed.
I guess the only other point to raise is why do you see keeping the site alive in of itself is important enough even if the solution to that goal is to remove the thing the current board users come to the site for?
Yeah Ill be sad to see the site die but Ill tell you what if they get rid of the social boards Id stop coming anyway. So it might as well be dead to me in that situation as Ill stop coming.
Yea, I gained myself a pretty dangerous stalker. So for the sake of my family, and my livelihood Im going to stop with the corporate shilling its not worth it.
