The top image is more emotional and relatable than the cartoon flood of tears in the below image. You dont even need to know why hes crying to see how upset he is. Whereas I dont feel much emotion from the second image and it comes across as being able to be glossed over.

I mean, one is meant to be an emotional moment while the other is comical. They're trying to accomplish different things.
