So...is NYC becoming the real life version of Gotham?

From what I've heard, theft is so rampant that stores are shutting down left and right. And apparently there's zero consequences for shoplifting if the amount of goods stolen is under $1000. The problem seems to only be getting worse. What are people going to do when there are no grocery stores left? How is the city going to survive? Why is this being allowed to happen?

I don't watch Fox. These clips are just showing up on my Youtube feed. So you're saying there are no shoplifting gangs in the city and this whole problem is made up? I don't live there so I don't know.

No, of course there's crime. But crime rates overall have dropped, it's just easier to highlight crimes that do occur and try to extrapolate that as meaning that crime is out of control for clicks or ratings.

I've never seen this topic here and I'm here every day. And besides, if everyone stopped repeating topics, this site would truly be dead.

I live in NYC. The shoplifting seems to mainly be at pharmacy chains like Rite Aid, CVS, etc. where basically everything is now under lock and key. One near me actually closed but I don't know if that's related. People don't really shoplift at grocery stores though, so wym?
How quaint.

...I think I'm done here...
I've mostly heard that things are better in NYC these days. Not saying perfect, just better. But I live in Iowa, so I don't really know.
Remember people raising fuss about the migrant crime wave, but theres been a notable quiet about that for a while now.

Why is it every time I make a topic here I regret it. No matter the subject it's the same snarky comments every time. There's never any trace of intelligent discourse here. I don't even know why I bother.
