It's more the amount of bullshit companies are pulling now. Sony especially, ps5 is probably the last console I'm gonna buy from them. Microsoft has been shitting the bed, and now with their recent closures.

Then you have all the bullshit companies in between. I'm gonna stick to FF14 for now and play through my backlog. But I'm gonna take a backseat from anything new the industry is gonna bring out for now.

I hope there's some sort of reset or shakeup to fix a lot of this crap.

nintendo is probably your best bet

oh dont get me wrong nintendo does ALOT Of scummy things

but in comparison to the other big names they are not so bad

I've been out of the "keeping up w/ whatever is new" phase in terms of most games for probably over a decade, for the most part. Very rarely do I pick up a game at launch, don't buy consoles, etc...

The FOMO style battle passes or nonstop subscription for everything shit, games as a service is a nightmare.

I also say this knowing I subscribe to an MMO, but that feels a bit different as that's an upfront known thing lol.

This is the first gen where Ive ever really felt that nothing has happened. Like, if somebody asked me to name great games from any previous gen Ive been around to experience, it would be easy. For this one, Ive got nothing.

I dunno, is the gaming industry really that bad? I used to pay $50 for a game in the 90s, now I pay about $60-$70, doesnt seem all too bad with inflation factored in

I've already stated that I'm done with this industry. I might buy Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch, but if there's any hint of them trying to push digital-only with it, then fuck them. And that's pretty likely to happen.

Right now, I feel like the PS5 was my last console purchase. And I'm fine with that. I'm more than ready to go 100% "retro" gaming.

Also, I'm willing to bet my PS5 collection will be my 3rd smallest library of games, with only smaller collections for Vectrex and Atari Jaguar. The main thing I'll end up using my PS5 for is as a faster loading PS4. I needed a back-up for my PS4 anyway since consoles never get super discounted at the end of their runs anymore.

I wonder if some of these games just aren't for you as Baldur's Gate 3 was a huge deal and a very good game.

Lack of time (career, dating, other hobbies)
