My ex was in her mid twenties and literally threw a rage-filled tantrum because she didn't understand how to use a File explorer to find where a Steam game was installed

they don't know shit about those either, except how to get to their favorite apps.

like, actual interest in tech and knowledge about how things work seems to have died w/ millennials., from my experience

I blame Apple. They intentionally obfuscate a lot of OS actions to make it so you become trapped in their ecosystem since none of your knowledge transfers to anywhere else.

it always has had a fair amounth, tbh. like, getting a decent IT job, like actual internal IT at a corporation or business where you don't have to deal w/ the general public, has always been harder, and people hold onto those jobs like their lives depend on it.

I blame iOS for that. Macos is pretty open.

It's open, but only if you already know what you're doing. Like... The standard install process completely hides install locations and the file browser tries it's best to hide root. I've had to pop open a terminal and cd/ls/grep my way through the drive manually to find directories before because a file needs replacing and even macOS doesn't want you to know how the file system is organized.

I mean, my kids (15 and 18) obviously know what a computer is, but more in the generic sense.

To the point where they're more apt to call any computer a "Chromebook" becasue that's what they have to do all their schoolwork on.
It takes zero effort to be a good person.

Oh God, we've circled back around to how our parents were. Like the mom's that called every game console a Nintendo
