it's one of those things a lot of people take for granted (I know I have), so it's sometimes hard to believe it's an experience others might not have had.

I freaked out when I smoked a joint then started walking on our beach

it's one of those things where you can understand, conceptually, that earth has around 70% water on its surface, but seeing an ocean locks things in place

I just got back from Florida, my brother got married on the beach on Saturday. It was only the second time I saw the ocean. 2 years ago I went to Hilton Head. We had a house on the intercostal side of the island, and I couldnt believe how many dead horseshoe crabs there were on the beach. And I didnt see one live crab. This time, we had a condo on the gulf side of the island, and there were no dead animals on the beach.

I've seen lakes but never the ocean, but I've seen it in films and games, you know what I think of when I think of the ocean? Death, as a human there's nothing to be gained from being in the ocean unless you wanna die in one of the most terrifying ways a human can die, I've seen Titantic, I've played Subnautica, the ocean is death.
I don't think I saw the ocean until I was like 22. It was a windy and overcast day. Checking in to the hotel I kept looking out at the dark grayish blue waves thrash around and it definitely felt unsettling.
I guess I'm something of a ne'er do well.

There was a western where the guy wanted to get to the ocean because his dead wife got there all shot to hell and died on the beach maybe, anyway good stuff
There was a show, young Sheldon, iirc, where they went on a trip, and they were excited because their hotel had a view of a river. Having grown up less than two miles from the Mississippi, I thought that was odd, but I understood when I became excited to see the ocean for the first time.

Wow would have never guessed people would have that reaction to the ocean. Note I am not suggesting that they are wrong or anything like that. That is neat to see, and shows us how different people can view things that we see as just typical .
