it's one of those things a lot of people take for granted (I know I have), so it's sometimes hard to believe it's an experience others might not have had.

when I watch the ocean I stand in awe thinking of all the creatures in the ocean, including the ones we dont know about still.
I freaked out when I smoked a joint then started walking on our beach

Such a genuine reaction. I love it, thanks.

it's one of those things where you can understand, conceptually, that earth has around 70% water on its surface, but seeing an ocean locks things in place

I just got back from Florida, my brother got married on the beach on Saturday. It was only the second time I saw the ocean. 2 years ago I went to Hilton Head. We had a house on the intercostal side of the island, and I couldnt believe how many dead horseshoe crabs there were on the beach. And I didnt see one live crab. This time, we had a condo on the gulf side of the island, and there were no dead animals on the beach.
I'm the eyehole man. I'm the only one that's allowed to have eyeholes! Get up on outta here with my eyeholes!
Growing up on an island nation, the idea of somebody having never seen the ocean seems only one step away from them having never seen the sky.
What's the "seeing the ocean for the first time" for people that have always lived on a coastal region?
*flops*
I've seen lakes but never the ocean, but I've seen it in films and games, you know what I think of when I think of the ocean? Death, as a human there's nothing to be gained from being in the ocean unless you wanna die in one of the most terrifying ways a human can die, I've seen Titantic, I've played Subnautica, the ocean is death.
A worthless existence
I don't think I saw the ocean until I was like 22. It was a windy and overcast day. Checking in to the hotel I kept looking out at the dark grayish blue waves thrash around and it definitely felt unsettling.
I guess I'm something of a ne'er do well.

maybe something like a vast desert.

I was once on a trip to Rwanda, and when the plane flew over the Sahara, I was in awe of how "unending" it was.

also, from the comments in the video, someone said they felt something similar when they first saw the Grand Canyon.

There was a show, young Sheldon, iirc, where they went on a trip, and they were excited because their hotel had a view of a river. Having grown up less than two miles from the Mississippi, I thought that was odd, but I understood when I became excited to see the ocean for the first time.

Wow would have never guessed people would have that reaction to the ocean. Note I am not suggesting that they are wrong or anything like that. That is neat to see, and shows us how different people can view things that we see as just typical .

It IS really cool, but like, I grew up in Chicago. Visually a Great Lake isn't much different than an ocean.

They were never heard from again. It turns out neither of them were watching out for that coyote.
The ocean is one of my favorite sights to see. Puts me in a good mood even if I don't really like swimming.
