I think they are fun for a weekend or a small trip but there would be a lot of things that would annoy me if it was a permanent residence when it comes to electricity/propane and needing to maintain a boat for back and forth transportation to the mainland.
Always transporting stuff like groceries or other household needs would be a pain in the ass. I had a friend who lived on one. I'd rather just live in a house/cabin that was lakefront but not out in the middle of the water.

I guess if there's a way to work out getting electricity onboard, or if it were just for a weekend with Mrs. Devsman, but no way in hell am I gonna take up permanent residence anywhere without a PC.
