Employer literally LAUGHED when I said I am worth $23/hour in the interview???

Current Events

This just happened ._.

It's for an ophthalmic assistant position, and it was an interview for a new clinic. He asked what my expected compensation was, and knowing the Indeed range said $19-$25 I asked for $23 since I have two years experience AND a certification.
HE LAUGHED AT ME AND SAID
"You really think you can get $23 an hour with *looks at my resume* only 2 years experience??"

ce the instant embarrassment and shame I felt... I thought I was being reasonable in this economy smh

I tried to push down my feelings, and pretended to be completely confident in my answer and explained that yes, I feel that $23/hour for two years of experience in this field is fair compensation. He said that was a huge ask and he said he'll see what he can do.

I am not getting a call back on this job >.>
