I feel like a lot of people that are saying $5k have jobs that pay their insurance, may live with their parents still and pay a reduced/no rent, and have no kids. They either don't own a car, or it's paid off, etc.

My rent hasn't gone up once in the 6 or 7 years I've lived at my current place. My phone bill can't go up as long as I just stay on my current plan. Internet bill goes up occasionally, but by a relatively small amount. Food does get more expensive over time, but I don't see it getting bad enough to cause issues. I don't own a car, nor do I ever plan to own one. I have no kids, and that isn't going to change. I live in Canada, so medical expenses aren't an issue.
